Today Starwood Vacation Ownership (parent company of Westin Resort) announced the start of the construction of a recreation area south of the existing Westin Resort tower (Aruba’s highest building). This area is intended for the use by people who want to visit Palm Beach. This is a very popular spot, specially with locals.

Starwood is building among others a small park, shower facilities, parking area and is giving the beach police post a much needed face lift.

Why is Starwood doing this? It will certainly help grow some goodwill with the people. Remember, next to this park there are plans to build a Starwood timeshare tower. Lastly, companies on Aruba enjoy tax breaks for certain community service provided.

Fact of the matter is that it is a nice gesture and it is welcome.
