Travel Surprisingly Strong

Nice week-day buzz at Druif Beach

A few weeks ago officials revealed alarming figures about the bookings to Aruba for the months ahead. According to the local tourism association booking fell with at least a quarter, in comparison to the same period last year. Needless to say, that this is a significant amount. Especially tourism from North America is expected to reduce significantly.

Back in October I wrote about the potential effect of the economic situation on Aruba travel. I speculated that incentives where going to be offered to travelers, and it happened. There are a lot of last-minute deals to be found in the time of year.

I came across an interesting article just today, in which again it seems to reinforce my thesis on the last minute deals. Americans are traveling more than last year according to the article. They mentioned a Top 10 of the most popular places:

  1. Hawaii
  2. London
  3. Paris
  4. Aruba
  5. New York City
  6. Las Vegas
  7. Jamaica
  8. Rome
  9. Bahamas
  10. Tahiti
