Hurricane season is well under way and thus far it has been very quiet. Until now. Two storms have formed in the Atlantic and are heading towards the islands in the eastern Caribbean.

Due to tropical storm Ana, the government of the Netherlands Antilles has issued a tropical storm watch for St. Maarten, St. Eustatius and Saba. Additionally, National Hurricane Center has advised authorities of Puerto Rico to monitor this storm closely as well. Storm Ana isn’t expected to affect Aruba.

Meanwhile behind Ana, tropical storm Bill is coming as well. This storm is taking a seemingly slightly more southern path and might pass closer to the southern Caribbean. For both Ana and Bill it’s still premature for any speculation. Nevertheless, I’ll keep you updated. For more detailed and scientific information please visit National Hurricane Center.

Update: Ana has been downgraded to a Tropical Depression on Sunday. Tropical Storm Claudette has formed and is now threatening to hit the Florida Panhandle/Texas coast. Tropical Storm Bill on the other hand continues to gain strength and is expected to become a Category 1 Hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Scale within the next few hours.

None of the mentioned storms are forming a threat to Aruba. Below an updated Caribbean storm weather map.
