Nice wooden French doors at Pearl Condo
A condo project that has been moving along nicely, and under the radar I might add, is Pearl Luxury Condominium. This 25-unit project is located just off Eagle Beach and reportedly is going to feature hotel style amenities.
As many new condo projects continue to appear, this one is in advanced stages. If things continue this way, by the second quarter of next year Pearl could be welcoming its first inhabitants. However, there is still a lot of work to be done.

Natural litter (seaweed) near Eagle Beach coral formations
After having dealt with a few weeks of very volatile weather it is truly refreshing to have the weather back to normal. After the precipitations of the last weeks the weather is sunny and dry again. Our visitors are once again happy.
The beaches on the other hand still need some work. The beaches which eroded received a patch but the vast amounts of seaweed that remained around still needs to be taken care off. Above picture shows a part by Eagle Beach with dead seaweed on the coral formations. At this location it’s too difficult to clean up.

Druif Beach suffered greatly by Hurricane Omar
Tourists are slowly finding their way back to the beaches after the outskirts of Tropical Storm Omar (later a hurricane) kept us busy last week. Many beaches suffered from the storm by way of erosion and litter. As early as last week they started fixing up the beaches. Resorts are also helping as they have a lot to gain with a patched up and clean beach. Many palapas got ripped out of the ground during the stormy conditions.
After the storm passed the weather remained unstable throughout last week. In the weekend it didn’t rain significantly and it’s looking good for this week. This island is notorious for getting passing overcast which in turn many times is confused with precipitation by internet forecasts as I learned from Yahoo’s forecast today.
Sights and sounds of aftermath of Hurricane Omar in Aruba
It has been a few days of intense weather for Aruba standards. After a very wicked system formed quickly in the southern Caribbean earlier this week, it quickly became a tropical storm and later hurricane.
Once again Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao are lucky where the storm wasn’t powerful where it was relatively harmless. Though, it brought record amounts of rain to the islands on Tuesday and Wednesday. I haven’t received the latest figures, but unconfirmed reports claim that we’ve received around 7 inches of rain in two days. I would like to remind you that Aruba receives an average of 16 inches per year.

Some floods in Oranjestad
As Hurricane Omar strengthens, it’s pulling away from the Southern Caribbean and it’s headed north. This storm was a very strange one. For starters it formed in the south and it kept hovering around. Now its headed to the north east.
Meanwhile in Aruba it’s still raining on and off. The aftermath of the rain is visible with floods in many areas of the island. No injuries have been reported because of the storm. Traffic is moving slowly and international air travel has been disrupted from many cities. Only JetBlue from JFK, US Airways from Charlotte and American from Miami. All other flights from North America have been canceled. For detailed and updated information please visit Aruba’s airport site. Picture after the jump.

Tropical Storm Omar in Aruba
The Storm of 2008 (which I dubbed today) is currently around. Tropical Storm Omar just formed today and it made its presence felt. It rained a lot today. I think it rained almost the complete day. Currently it’s night time and it’s still raining.
Oh man, I don’t remember seeing so much rain in one day. It must be some kind of a record. I’ll be on the lookout for reports from the weather service to know for sure. It is expected to continue to be unstable for Wednesday and maybe even Thursday. Pictures after the jump.
