Marriott Aruba is perhaps one of the most important hotel chains in Aruba. Marriott International and its timeshare subsidiary have invested millions of dollars into the local tourism economy. The latest venture is the upgrade of Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino, where the lobby and rooms received - and are going to receive - a significant upgrade.

Several days ago a couple of frequent Marriott visitors commented to me about the lack of choice in regards to restaurants on the premises, especially around dinner time. I did a brief research on Aruba Marriott (I took a tour and observed) and found out that there aren’t many restaurants one can pick form. There is one really restaurant which opened recently: franchise Ruth’s Chris Steak House.

Additionally there is Simply Fish for dinner; this restaurant transforms into a beautiful dinner restaurant on the beach, therefore not as visible to the public as a static restaurant with its own theme. Lastly there is LaVista with a mixed menu [opens PDF document]. There are other bars where they serve food as well. Marriott visitors can also walk towards Marriott’s Ocean Club’s sport restaurant: Champions Sports Bar.

When the renovations started last year Marriott decided to shut down its Italian restaurant it had on the premises to open Ruth’s. I’m sure they had a good reason to do so; most probably it had to do with costumer research and finance. Perhaps now Marriott has to do some additional research towards the reaction to its restaurant facilities, as it isn’t the first time I hear comments on the lack of choice for dinner.

Naturally this sounds like music to the ears of top restaurants elsewhere on the island such as Madame Janette, Flying Fishbone and El Gaucho.
