I Come In Peace

Each time I take a little break from updating this website people email me with concern. Thank you for that, it’s nice to feel appreciated. I didn’t go anywhere; I’ve been just working hard on my other projects. If you really want updates from me you can follow my Twitter account (twitter.com/arubabeaches) where I update regularly. I like Twitter due to the fact that I can do this on the fly on my mobile phone.

During my absence I’ve continued to answer the comments here and my personal emails. Most of the comments I’ve received where from the piece I’ve written about the removal of the palapas on Aruba’s public beaches. The majority of the comments were negative. Most don’t seem to like this. Some of this resentment was also directed towards me for my “support” for this new rule.

Aruba Sunset
Just a nice sunset

I’ve given this some thought and decided to write an extensive come-back, a rant really. It was going to be filled with extensive calculations/stats (I acquired the latest stats from the local statistics bureau), quotes from the legislation (I’ve got all the articles) and thought of words such as “disrespect”, “sovereignty”, “dignity”, “lawful”, etc., etc.

I didn’t write it. I won’t write it. That’s not me. If people are equally passionate about this topic as I am, in reality it’s a huge compliment and honor really. People don’t want their home away from home to be altered, I’ve realized. This isn’t about breaking the law (FYI, did you know that hotels broke 8 laws/legislation by building palapas illegally?). This is about tourists wanting to enjoy the beaches like they’ve always done. I understand that, I respect that.

I will abide to the tagline of this website: “Latest insider opinion and tips on beaches, resorts, timeshares and condos.” Also:  ”Keeping it positive.” I reiterate something I’ve said in the past, there’s enough negativity to go around in many forums and websites out there. There is no need for another.

I come in peace.

PS. I have a dozen (old) posts lined up to be published with funky dates. They just need some touch up.
