Hurricane Dean And Turtles

22 Aug 2007 leave comment 105 words

Like stated in previous posts hurricane Dean brought minor damage to Aruba. The beaches suffered a little, the north coast endured heavy beating from the waves but that’s about it.

Today I learned that these waves caused a lot of damage to the nests of very rare turtles. According to the organization that protects these animals, many of these nests are ruined and the eggs are broken. What a shame.

On a side note, it is prohibited to drive with any kind of vehicle on the beaches, however this seems to be a major source of damage to the nests as well. Quads are the big culprits.
