First Anniversary

05/23/2008 | announcements

Wohoo! It’s the first birthday of arubabeaches.net. Apparently it is a big accomplishment as I learned recently that the lifespan of an average blog is only three months!

To be exact the first post was made on May 20th, 2007. At first as I started without exactly a specific idea what to write about, other than to write ’something about Aruba beaches’. That got old pretty quickly. I needed to alter the direction. I decided to focus not only on Aruba beaches but also its surroundings. It was a good move as there’s a lot happening around the beaches, such as construction and real estate. This offered me enough material to write about.

As many aspects of Aruba tourism, if not all, have something to do with Aruba beaches, I’ve decided to expand the topics even further. I start writing about air travel, sea travel and weather. As a matter of fact, the part about the weather became very interesting and very much visited last year during the hurricane season. There were two relatively large storms with paths scheduled to move close to the island. This made people start searching for information. Apparently there must have been a lack of information, as this relatively new site received a lot of visitors from the posts written about the storms.

Currently the most visited posts are the ones regarding the construction and reconstruction efforts on the resorts. Naturally when people are visiting they don’t want to stay at a construction site, with subsequent negative consequences. Resorts such as Marriott, Marriott Surf Club, Holiday Inn, Playa Linda, Hyatt, Riu, Westin, Divi Phoenix etc. were/are in major renovation rounds. Apart from Marriott, the information process from the resorts towards potential visitors regarding the renovations seems to have been insufficient. I’ve received many requests and questions about this.

As the English language is not my native language and I’m not a writer, writing in English posted more difficulties than I thought. Sometimes minor errors appeared in the posts, but I later tried to correct them as much as possible. I’ve received a huge help from my brother Reggie on that. Thanks man.

I’ve been speaking and writing in English for most of my life, however not on a frequent basis. I must admit, that after a year of writing and reading (writing involves a lot of reading ironically) in English, it enhanced my English forever. I’m a bit more comfortable writing in English than a year ago.

All in all, the readership of this site grew nicely throughout its first year and hope it will even grow further here on forward. I’m planning on implementing more changes as this website matures further.

Lastly I would like to thank all the readers for visiting.
