As hurricane Felix pushes away from Aruba it is headed for the warm open waters southern Caribbean, where it’s projected to gain much more force and is aiming the Central American countries of Nicaragua, Honduras and Belize.

All warnings for Aruba have been discontinued meanwhile. Air travel is heavily disrupted by the earlier closure of Aruba’s airport. The airport re-opened Sunday afternoon but air travel isn’t expected to get back to normal until Monday morning.

Reports of damage have been minimal throughout the weekend. Flooding has been also minimal. There are some pictures circulating of some flooding in downtown Oranjestad; I must tell you however, that those floods have more to do with a bad sewage system rather than the rain itself. Even with a regular shower over a longer period of time, causes similar floods in that area.

Despite of this hurricane coming as close as 5o miles to Aruba, fact of the matter is that we get average 16 inches of rain a year and hurricanes are still not that common in this region.

We will be more than happy to welcome you anytime here in our “One Happy Island”. All the best for the ones in the path of hurricane Felix in the coming days.
