Aruba Weather Update: It’s Raining

It’s pouring (apologies for the poor photograph)

There is no way around it today: it’s pouring in Aruba. It’s been raining for most part of this morning – Thursday – fairly hard. Sporadically there has been thunder and lightning as well.

The wind direction has changed from North to South, therefore we are now receiving clouds from South America. Contrary to popular believe, this isn’t hurricane rain, in other words, this storm isn’t related directly to the tropical storm activity – Hanna, Ike, Josephine – currently ongoing elsewhere in the Caribbean.

I drove around in town earlier (I had no camera on me) and saw several places with minor floods in the streets. This generally happens in Aruba due to the lack of proper drainage. I looked at some weather radar images and it shows less clouds coming our way. Later on today things might get back to normal after all.

Update: In the afternoon it cleared up completely.
